GE Money Partners With Local Community Organizations to Help Consumers Get Smart About Credit

GE Money employees across the U.S. to teach smart credit tips as part of national initiative

STAMFORD, CONN. - October 19, 2006 - GE Money employees across the U.S. will volunteer in their local communities on Thursday, October 19, to educate consumers about the basics of credit and credit reports as part of the American Banker Association's (ABA) "Get Smart About Credit" program. The initiative is also part of GE Money's national effort to increase financial literacy in communities it serves.

Participants will learn about interest rates and finance charges; who grants credit, what it means to establish credit and the benefits of doing so; how to read a credit report and why information contained in it is important; and more.

Like the ABA's national "Teach Our Children to Save" project that GE Money participated in earlier this year, volunteers from more than a dozen GE Money offices will reach out to consumers through community partners such as schools, women's shelters, senior centers and YMCAs across the country.

Volunteers from GE Money sites in Costa Mesa, Calif.; Charlotte, N.C.; Longwood and Tampa, Fla.; Schaumburg, Ill.; Salt Lake City, Utah; Canton, Ohio; Bentonville, Ark.; St. Paul, Minn.; Kansas City, Mo.; and Alpharetta, Ga. will participate in the community events.
